You can listen into our conversation over on my IGTV. ⠀ Join @celiadluna and myself as we explore creativity and rest, decolonizing our creative expression, and how we don’t see our creative tools as things but as energetic beings and friends. 💞
Real talk: when we decide to live a creative life, we are actually choosing to grow our creative SELF. Creativity grows when planted in peace and watered with nourishment. ⠀ Without that peace and nourishment, Creativity can’t find its way to us. It can’t breathe life into us. ⠀ But… ⠀ BEFORE you begin to make up stories about why things aren’t working for you, like… ⠀ “Am I even meant to do this?” “There are already so many people better than me at this…” “This is impossible…” ⠀ Just wait. one. minute. ⠀ We need to make space for the things that keep us going. That keep us strong. That keep us rooted in our power, our gifts and our strength. ⠀ Once we begin to give these negative thoughts credence, our emotional, mental and even physical health declines. We invite unnecessary drama and stress into our lives. We stop take responsibility for what’s ours. And we fall into a vortex of doom and completely lose touch with reality… and if you’re like me, when this happens, it stops me from showing up and doing my work. From being seen. From taking a stand for my creative calling and vision. ⠀ So, I want to share some steps to peace and nourishment I’ve used to move through the chaos and into clarity, creativity and flow. 💗 Here we go: ⠀ PEACE & NOURISHMENT: ✌🏽 Structuring days to align with my natural energy rhythms 🕊️ Releasing relationships that are not kind, loving and supportive (this includes IG accounts that surface feelings of not being enough or not being ready) ☮️ Taking deeeeeep breaths ✌🏽 Time in nature and time in the sun 🕊️ Moving my physical body in ways that also move sticky, heavy energy (personally, I love yoga and kettlebells/weights) ☮️ Eating in a way that gives me health, stamina and energy ✌🏽 Engaging in activities that support my Inner Practices such as meditation, non-linear dance, listening to a song that makes my heart sing, prayer, etc. 🕊️ Eating in a way that gives me health, stamina and energy ☮️ Connecting with people and communities that love and support me ⠀ LOVING PROTECTION STEP: 💟 Choose one Peace & Nourishment idea from the list above that you felt some kinda way about. 🌿 A Declaration-Prayer 🌿 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I refuse to let suffering exploit my creativity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Suffering is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is a part of our collective experience. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ May I feel it, embrace it, and may I live into action because of our suffering. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I will not let suffering exploit my creativity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I desire to be one who creates from deep peace, love, liberation and belonging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let me be one whose creations are rooted in love, peace and liberation within my own self. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And let me trust that others will embrace the roots of love, peace, liberation, and belonging in my creations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖤 #createtogrow #practicecreativedevotion
🔥 The rage in me that happens when I hear the words, “But I’m not creative.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ First of all… Are you truly trying to tell me that you’ve never experienced being creative? Never made something out of nothing? 🧐 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Second of all… I got my theories as to why this has been on repeat messaging to people overall. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let me shed some light: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Creativity is Revolutionary. 🔥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you tap into your creativity and leadership… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✔ You let go of perfectionism ✔ You embrace fresh ways of moving through life ✔ You create in ways that bring us joy ✔ You connect more fully and openly within ourselves and with others ✔ You embrace difference ✔ You allow new ideas to take root in your soul ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you don’t allow Creativity into your life… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✖ You stay scared and insecure ✖ You feel small and insignificant ✖ You live a life that feels low-key fake ✖ You judge yourself for not being further “ahead” in your creative expression ✖ You know you’re not living to your fullest potential ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And that’s why it’s dangerous to say the words, “I’m not creative.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Creativity is not some linear thing that can be measured, understood and commodified. Although many try. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Creativity is that explosion of energy that connects us to one another. That reminds us that we are in this together. That allows us to try on new ways of living. That supports us in dissolving outdated ways of moving through life for more interesting, loving, and beautiful ways. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And if you accept that you’re NOT CREATIVE, you’ll just stay stagnant. The same. No growth, no interesting life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So… do stop denying your creative power. Embrace it. Make bad art. Make great art. Just go make something that makes your heart sing. ⠀ Whew!
